Writing Retreat for academic staff at UWA

Academics work in an environment in which there are increasing pressures to publish. There can be many obstacles to publication productivity. These include time constraints, teaching and other service demands, student needs, daily interruptions, and lack of collegiality. Many people could benefit, therefore, from a structure and system for writing that will help them to overcome these barriers.

OSDS is exploring the possibility of providing academic staff with an opportunity to attend a writing retreat. This would offer “time out” in which staff could attend an off-campus location to engage in intensive writing sessions, free from distraction. Such retreats also facilitate academic collegiality and the sharing of ideas.

The proposed project is to organise a five-day-long live-in writing retreat during non-teaching time in late November/early December 2008. All academic staff who are interested in attending to improve their research quality and writing productivity are invited to complete the survey below.

To assist us with gauging your interest and possible attendance, please complete the following questionnaire by 30 May 2008.
