Intended Audience:

Staff members who are responsible for agenda preparation and providing executive and/or administrative support to committees.

Workshop Description:

Clear, succinct and informative agenda preparation and writing are key contributing factors to successful meetings and can be a rewarding experience for you. A well-considered and carefully constructed agenda assists the chair to conduct the meeting towards achieving its purpose and goals and helps the committee to make effective decisions and form appropriate resolutions.

This workshop will provide an opportunity to review and develop your skills in agenda preparation and writing and will offer guidance on the development of an effective agenda item.

The workshop will be illustrated with examples of agenda items. Participants will have an opportunity to complete some exercises to practice what they are taught in the workshop as well as to share ideas on what has worked well for them.

Intended Outcomes:

  • Enhanced understanding of the purpose and types of agenda items and their construction
  • Understanding of the UWA preferred system of agenda construction (Parts 1, 2 and 3)
  • Understanding how an effective agenda can support the chair in their role in conducting meetings
  • Increased skills and confidence in agenda preparation and writing
  • Understanding the basics of meeting procedure

  • Workshop 2: Wednesday 14 October 2009: 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Cost:

UWA staff members and UWA affiliates will receive priority in gaining access to this session. Participant enrolment in this workshop will be confirmed following the closing date for applications. Please note a cancellation fee may apply for non-attendees. We also welcome enrolment by non-UWA participants, subject to availability. The commercial fee for non-UWA attendees is calculated at $100 per hour of attendance. Staff working in other universities will receive a 20% discount on the commercial fee.
