For the Term of Its Natural Life: Sentencing in Records Management
Intended Audience:All staff who are responsible for making decisions on the retention and disposal of their local records. This may be as part of a major disposal project or on an ad hoc basis". Workshop Description:Sentencing is the process by which we make decisions about the fate of individual record, generally at the point when they are no longer active. This session will inform participants how to sentence their records lawfully, and what to do once this process has been completed. It will also provide an understanding of the concepts and reasons for effective retention and disposal of university records. Intended Outcomes:Participants will - understand their legal responsibilities relating to the disposal of records
- know how to identify the difference between archival and temporary records in all formats (including emails)
- know how to decide at what point temporary records can be destroyed
- know how to transfer archival records to the University Archives

- Sentencing exercise (participants are encouraged to bring along their own files for sentencing)

Maria Carvalho Cost:UWA staff members and UWA affiliates will receive priority in gaining access to this session. Participant enrolment in this workshop will be confirmed following the closing date for applications. Please note a cancellation fee may apply for non-attendees.
We also welcome enrolment by non-UWA participants, subject to availability. The commercial fee for non-UWA attendees is calculated at $100 per hour of attendance. Staff working in other universities will receive a 20% discount on the commercial fee. Number of Places:24
