Applying for Jobs: Facing Selection Panels

Intended Audience:

University staff who would like some practice in being interviewed by selection panels and receive constructive feedback on their skills.

Workshop Description:

Many people feel overwhelmed at the thought of being interviewed for a job, particularly by a selection panel of three or more people. Some have not been interviewed for a long time and are unsure what to expect. This session will offer you the opportunity to be interviewed in a supportive environment by UWA staff who are learning to be on selection panels. Some of the panel members will have prior interviewing experience and some will be new to it.

A Level 5 Administrative Officer position will be used for the interviews, and questions will be based around the following selection criteria: organisational skills, working independently, working in a team, initiative, and communication skills.

Intended Outcomes:

After completing this session, participants will have:
  • Experienced what it is like to be interviewed by two different selection panels
  • Received constructive feedback from workshop presenters and selection panel members
  • Provided written feedback to the selection panels on their experiences of the interview process
Please note: Participants will be asked to provide a copy of their resume to the selection panels. This document, and anything discussed during the interview process, will be treated in the strictest confidence.
