Applying for Jobs: Interview Tips and Techniques

Intended Audience:

Any staff member who would like assistance in presenting themselves positively at UWA job interviews.

Workshop Description:

Many people feel overwhelmed at the thought of being interviewed for a job, particularly by a selection panel. Some have not been interviewed for a long time and are unsure what to expect or how to present themselves in the best way. This workshop will offer you the opportunity to consider tips and techniques for presenting yourself well at an interview, to practice answering questions in a supportive environment with fellow participants, and to receive constructive feedback.

Intended Outcomes:

By the end of the workshop participants will have a better understanding of:

• The purpose and format of a UWA job interview
• Different types of interview questions and how to answer them
• How to prepare for the interview
• How to overcome nerves and answer difficult questions
• How to present themselves positively and confidently

Key Activities:

• Information presentation
• Group discussions and exercises
• Practice with fellow participants at answering interview questions and receiving constructive feedback
• Use of workshop notes

Cost:

UWA staff members and UWA affiliates will receive priority in gaining access to this session. Participant enrolment in this workshop will be confirmed following the closing date for applications. Please note a cancellation fee may apply for non-attendees. We also welcome enrolment by non-UWA participants, subject to availability. The commercial fee for non-UWA attendees is calculated at $100 per hour of attendance. Staff working in other universities will receive a 20% discount on the commercial fee.
