Budgeting Strategies for Effective Financial Management

Intended Audience:

Supervisors and Managers with financial or budget responsibilities, who are seeking to improve their financial decision-making skills and increase their knowledge of budgeting processes.

Workshop Description:

Managing a business unit's finances is a crucial part of a supervisor/manager's role. This course provides an overview of a range of budgeting and financial planning activities and explains how they relate to the University's strategic goals. It is designed to give participants an understanding of the budget cycle and the skills required to set and monitor the performance of a budget at the business unit level.

Intended Outcomes:

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Set financial goals
  • Identify different types of budgets
  • Understand the budget cycle
  • Develop business unit budgets
  • Monitor performance against budget

Key Activities:

The orientation will comprise short information components followed by activities, discussions or case studies. The focus will be on participants’ interaction and interchange.

Cost:

UWA staff members and UWA affiliates will receive priority in gaining access to this session. Participant enrolment in this workshop will be confirmed following the closing date for applications. Please note a cancellation fee may apply for non-attendees. We also welcome enrolment by non-UWA participants, subject to availability. The commercial fee for non-UWA attendees is calculated at $100 per hour of attendance. Staff working in other universities will receive a 20% discount on the commercial fee.
