Applying for Jobs: The Written Application

Intended Audience:

Any staff member who would like assistance in presenting themselves positively in their written applications for UWA vacancies.

Workshop Description:

A good written application is crucial if you want to be shortlisted for a job. This workshop will focus on how to present yourself positively and effectively on paper through your resume, covering letter and statement addressing the selection criteria.

Intended Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop, participants will have a better understanding of:

  • What is required when applying for a UWA vacancy
  • Selection criteria: what they are and how to demonstrate that you meet them
  • What to include in a resume and different ways of presenting the information
  • How to develop an interesting cover letter that attracts attention
  • How to present themselves positively and competitively in writing

Key Activities:

  • Information presentation
  • Group discussions and exercises looking at sample resumes and selection criteria statements
  • Use of workshop notes

Cost:

UWA staff members and UWA affiliates will receive priority in gaining access to this session. Participant enrolment in this workshop will be confirmed following the closing date for applications. Please note a cancellation fee may apply for non-attendees. We also welcome enrolment by non-UWA participants, subject to availability. The commercial fee for non-UWA attendees is calculated at $100 per hour of attendance. Staff working in other universities will receive a 20% discount on the commercial fee.
