Intended Audience:

This session is relevant for any staff who are interested in developing their skills in building effective research mentoring relationships – as either a mentor or mentee.

Workshop Description:

Successful researchers often attribute much of their effective progress to mentors who provided guidance and support. This workshop reviews the types of research relationships that may occur, as well as the principles of research mentoring.

Intended Outcomes:

At the conclusion of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the role and responsibilities of the research consultant.
  • Explain the ethical and practical considerations that should be considered when undertaking research consultancies.
  • Apply strategies for successful consultancies to industry and the community.
  • Effectively plan, negotiate and manage the consultancy relationship to ensure full benefit is gained by the University and the client.

Key Activities:

The workshop will incorporate presentations, discussions and activities. Participants will be provided with a range of templates to adapt for their own use.

Cost:

UWA staff members and UWA affiliates will receive priority in gaining access to this session. Participant enrolment in this workshop will be confirmed following the closing date for applications. Please note a cancellation fee may apply for non-attendees. We also welcome enrolment by non-UWA participants, subject to availability. The commercial fee for non-UWA attendees is calculated at $100 per hour of attendance. Staff working in other universities will receive a 20% discount on the commercial fee.
