Career Development Workshop

Intended Audience:

Any member of staff interested in exploring their career.

Workshop Description:

Some people are clear what they want from their career and where they are going, many are less certain, and some don’t see themselves as having a career at all. This workshop offers you an opportunity to pause and reflect on your career so far, to consider your values, strengths and needs, and to identify future career goals. The workshop explores:
  • What career development is
  • Identifying work values and career goals
  • Recognising and marketing skills and achievements
  • Networking
  • Overcoming personal barriers
  • Setting career goals

Intended Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop participants will have:
  • a greater awareness of what career development means to them
  • explored a range of career development issues, strategies and experiences
  • a better understanding of their own career development needs and goals.

Key Activities:

  • Presentations by UWA staff and invited speakers
  • Group discussions, individual exercises, and use of workshop notes

Duration:

Two 3 hours sessions

  • Friday 22 May 2009: 9:30am - 12:30pm, and Friday 29 May 2009: 9:30am - 12:30pm

Cost:

UWA staff members and UWA affiliates will receive priority in gaining access to this session. Participant enrolment in this workshop will be confirmed following the closing date for applications. Please note a cancellation fee may apply for non-attendees. We also welcome enrolment by non-UWA participants, subject to availability. The commercial fee for non-UWA attendees is calculated at $100 per hour of attendance. Staff working in other universities will receive a 20% discount on the commercial fee.
