Enjoy being at Work? Developing Your Communication and Conflict Resolution Skills

Intended Audience:

This workshop is intended for any staff wanting to get more enjoyment out of work. Dealing with difficult emotions can cloud our perception of workplace issues. It is particularly useful for anyone wishing to enhance their communication skills. Clinical Psychologists from the UWA counselling service offer their expertise to UWA staff wishing to enhance their existing ability to manage workplace relationships.

Workshop Description:

This seminar involves a look at interpersonal communications and conflict resolution particularly within the workplace. The course focuses on identifying and developing the skills required to successfully manage interpersonal relations at work. Emphasis is placed on communication skills, giving effective responses, conflict resolution, and managing emotions. Learn to recognise the barriers to effective communication and make the most of the workplace.

Intended Outcomes:

At the conclusion of the programme, participants will be able to:
  • Identify and understand the necessary communication skills;
  • Examine the issues involved with managing conflict;
  • Learn to recognise and value difference;
  • Develop strategies to manage the emotional reactions to difficult situations.

Key Activities:

Examine the communication skills and strategies to manage conflict through group discussion and interactive exercises. The focus is to improve on existing knowledge while reinforcing the strengths each of us bring to interpersonal relationships. Raise awareness of the positive and negative effects of various styles. Develop strategies to manage our emotions use of humour and clear communication.

Cost:

UWA staff members and UWA affiliates will receive priority in gaining access to this session. Participant enrolment in this workshop will be confirmed following the closing date for applications. Please note a cancellation fee may apply for non-attendees. We also welcome enrolment by non-UWA participants, subject to availability. The commercial fee for non-UWA attendees is calculated at $100 per hour of attendance. Staff working in other universities will receive a 20% discount on the commercial fee.
