How the University Works: Organisational and Committee Structures

Intended Audience:

For any staff member who would like to better understand how the University works.

Workshop Description:

Whether you are new to the organisation or have been here some time, this information session is designed to help demystify some of the workings of the University and to provide you with a broad overview of the University's structure and decision-making processes. The session will focus on:
  • 'Committee City' - the key committees and their roles
  • The key managers - who they are and what they do
  • Governance issues (e.g. devolution versus centralism; management and collegiality)

Intended Outcomes:

By the end of this session, participants can expect to have a better understanding of:
  • Where formal responsibilities lie within the University
  • The academic committee system
  • 'Top-down' and 'bottom-up' communication processes
  • Processes and procedures for initiating change
  • Where to go for more information

Cost:

UWA staff members and UWA affiliates will receive priority in gaining access to this session. Participant enrolment in this workshop will be confirmed following the closing date for applications. Please note a cancellation fee may apply for non-attendees. We also welcome enrolment by non-UWA participants, subject to availability. The commercial fee for non-UWA attendees is calculated at $100 per hour of attendance. Staff working in other universities will receive a 20% discount on the commercial fee.
